Today we will talk about the Gotrax GXL V2 electric scooter, an electric scooter aimed at people who want a scooter for everyday use. It is an upgraded version of the original GXL V1 that was released in 2018. Visually the two scooters are not much different but there are substantial changes in the performance and functionality.

General Specs of Gotrax GXL V2 Electric Scooter:

If you want to buy a new scooter but are confused by the different choices in the market, you have come to the right place. Let’s discuss the GXL Commuting V2 in detail so you can decide whether it is the right fit for you.

Quality and design of Gotrax GXL V2

The GXL Commuter V2has an incredible build quality, and the scooter feels sturdy with a premium finish. It is very durable and you can be sure that it will be reliable on the road. The scooter can be folded for easy storage, and the folded dimensions are only 15″ x 44″ x 6″. This makes it perfect to take on the bus or in the office, where it can be safely tucked under your desk.

1. Folding design

As I have mentioned above, the scooter can be folded when not in use, and it is latched in place for portability. However, let’s discuss how well this scooter works while you are riding it. The handle is firmly attached and there is no risk of the scooter folding up and it will stay in place. It even comes with a safety pin that you can screw in place, which adds an added layer of security, especially on a bumpy ride.

2. Brakes

This is an area where the scooter has been significantly upgraded. While last year’s model had a rear brake that was operated by foot, this year Gotrax has replaced that for a handbrake. The scooter has front regenerative brakes and rear disc brakes, both are operated by a hand brake placed on the left handlebar. The rear disc brakes are very cool, and they are amazing at stopping the scooter at low speeds so it instantly comes to a halt. Also, it is very uncommon to see disc brakes at this price range, therefore it is an achievement by Gotrax for making this possible. The fact that both brakes can now be operated by hand is a positive addition because people have a smaller reaction time as compared to using their feet. This has increased the overall safety of the scooter, while also freeing up floor space.

3. Tires

The electric scooter boasts 8.5” pneumatic tires, which are perfectly balanced. It is pleasing to see pneumatic tires in this price range, and they work wonderfully to give you a smooth ride on jerky roads. Even though the scooter comes without a suspension system, the tires make up for it

4. Fenders

The GXL V2 electric scooter has upgraded fenders, made of reinforced plastic that has made them more resilient and resistant to scratches and breaks. This is a great new addition, and the fender is not flimsy as the one on V1.

5. Handlebars

It has a minimalist design, with an LED that shows speed and battery level. To the left of the handlebar is the hand brake, and to the right, there is a thumb-operated switch for speed.

The scooter also has a front light and back reflectors, making it suitable for use at night.

Asembly

The assembly is straightforward, and you only have to attach the handlebars and brake cables. All required instruments are included in the box, and you can find detailed instructional videos on the Gotrax website. You have to be a little patient while aligning the handlebars, as they may bend if a strong force is applied.

Performance of Gotrax GXL V2

The GXL V2 has a 250-Watt DC electric motor, which delivers great performance considering the price tag. The scooter can attain a speed of up to 16 Mph while supporting a 220 Lbs. rider, which is quite decent. It will struggle uphill where you can’t get much speed, but on flat surfaces, it does deliver.

You get great acceleration, and the motor is very quiet and smooth, especially when operating at maximum speed.

Battery

The e-scooter has a 36V battery, and the manufacturers claim that one full charge will last you 12 miles. However, the range depends on the usage and speed and may be as less as 6 miles if you run it at top speed with a heavy load. While using conservatively the battery should last 10 miles, which is enough for a short to intermediate commute.

The battery takes approximately 4 hours to charge, and most users won’t need to charge daily. However, the battery condition strongly depends on the weather, terrain and the number of stops you make. In the unfortunate case where you run out of juice in the middle of your commute, there is a handy little feature that allows you to use the scooter as a regular kick-scooter so you can reach your destination.

Conclusion

The Gotrax GXL V2 is an excellent electric scooter for everyday use. It has a good battery life that will last you for at least 9 miles, and it can attain a speed of 16 Mph on city terrains. The added disc brakes and front lights have made the scooter safer and easier to use.

Overall, it is a great machine that will serve you well with a price tag will not break your bank. So, if you are looking for a reliable and affordable scooter, the GXL V2 may be the one for you.
