Quality and Design of Hiboy S2R Electric Scooter :

The Hiboy S2R features a classic slim design, very similar to those conventional scooters without an electric motor that were very common just some years ago. The deck and handlebars are very slim, and this is also made for a storage purpose: when folded the electric scooter only occupies 45.7 inches (L) x 16.9 inches (W) x 20.5 inches (H).

Thanks to the easy and quick folding mechanism and low weight (about 30 lbs) this electric scooter is ideal for riders. The Hiboy S2R Electric Scooter is one of the most lightweight we’ve ever reviewed; it’s perfect for all those commuters that need to fold and bring the device with them on the bus or train, those who need to bring the e-scooter with them in the office, and even those who need to climb some stairs along their path to work or school.

Despite the agile look, slim shape, and low weight, the Hiboy S2R is also highly resistant and can carry a maximum load of 220 lbs

Handlebars

The Hiboy S2R’s handlebar is very peculiar: it has a regular straight shape with rubberized handgrips, but – what’s peculiar is that – it features both brake and accelerator on the same side. Usually, on most electric scooters out there you have the accelerator on the right side and a brake (when there’s only one) on the left. On the Hiboy S2R Electric Scooter, instead, you have both the accelerator and brake on the same side (right side).

This isn’t as uncomfortable as it seems: while you can push the accelerator with your thumb, you can use the rest of your fingers to reach the brake lever when needed.

On the center of your handlebar, you have a small but highly readable display that shows some information about your ridings such as speed and battery life.

Tires

8.5-inch solid tires are mounted on the Hiboy H2R Electric Scooter. They are wide enough to allow for an ideal balance and comfort during riding.

Solid tires are known for providing a more rigid riding on an electric scooter when compared to inflated ones. However, you should also consider the advantages that come with them: they require no maintenance, they aren’t subject to deflating or puncture, you don’t need to make any tire pressure check.

Lights

The Hiboy S2R Electric Scooter is equipped with a front headlight (white) and a rear red light located on the rear fender. They are both useful to make yourself visible on the road, however, if you need to ride your e-scooter at night and you need to improve your visibility, then you’ll need an additional and more powerful headlight to be 100% safe.

You can control the light from your display and constantly check whether they’re on or off.

Deck & Kickstand

We’ve already mentioned that the Hiboy S2R has a thin and long deck. It doesn’t feel any less comfortable than other wider decks mounted on more expensive devices. On the contrary, a thin deck allows for enhanced agility and the possibility of making your turn tighter.
The deck is also long enough to host both your feet on it comfortably, even if you are a tall and big guy.
The thick and resistant retractable kickstand can be used anytime you need to leave your electric scooter standing. You don’t need to always fold it down when you’re not riding it. It is also convenient during charging.

Brakes

The Hiboy S2R Electric Scooter features a double electric braking system. It is also provided with a regenerative system capable of charging the battery while you use the brakes.
The electric scooter’s safety is also enhanced by the ABS: it prevents the wheels from locking when you use the brakes, and it becomes extremely important when you pull the brake levers abruptly for an emergency stop, especially on wet terrain.

Assembling

The Hiboy S2R Electric Scooter package contains:
1 X Assembled Electric Scooter,
1 X Charger
6 X Screws
1 X Hexagon Wrench
1 X key
1 X User Manual
The electric scooter comes out of the box pretty much assembled. What you need to do is:
1. Unfold the electric scooter and secure it into its unfolded standing position (the kickstand is there to help you with it!
2. Assemble the handlebar in its position. Everything is already connected, you need to place the handlebar in its proper position (you can’t go wrong), and secure it with the screws and tool included in the package.
3. Charge your Hiboy S2R and you’re ready to go!

Performance for Hiboy S2R:

The Hiboy S2R Electric Scooter’s 350-watt electric brushless hub motor allows for a maximum speed of 19 mph. This might seem a little slow as a top-speed, but this is also in line with the maximum speed allowed for electric scooters in most city roads all around the world. And since this is an electric scooter aimed at commuters, it makes perfect sense!

Despite the solid tires and lack of suspensions, the riding on-road feel quite comfortable, probably because of – or thanks to – the low top speed. This isn’t an electric scooter for off-road ridings: if you take a dirt lane, your Hiboy S2R would carry you on it, but you need to proceed slowly and terrain needs to be terrain. There is no chance of riding this electric scooter on mud or rough terrains, but again, this isn’t what the S2R is aimed at.

This is a kick starter electric scooter, so you need to kick it once or twice before the electric motor becomes operational. After that and using the throttle, the device has very smooth acceleration. Brakes are just as efficient: they’re very responsive so that you can have smooth slowing downs, but they also allow for a full stop within a very short distance.

The Hiboy S2R is also one of those electric scooters that can carry you up some small hills or slopes (up to 15 degrees). You don’t experience an abrupt deceleration as soon as you encounter a small hill with this electric scooter. It is also provided with cruise control that automatically maintains your speed constant: you activate it by pushing the button on the handlebar three times and disable it by using the brake. Safe and easy!

Battery life and charging time

The Hiboy S2R Electric Scooter features a 36V 7.5 Ah Li-ion removable battery. This battery has some interesting features. First of all, just like every Li-ion battery, it’s highly durable: you can expect around (and even more than) 1000 charge cycles. In terms of the time of usage, you can ride your electric scooter for 2 to 3 years before any issues arise with your battery. Second, it’s removable! We haven’t seen many removable batteries on electric scooters but it’s an aspect that can have many advantages:

  • You can charge it from anywhere you want;

  • You can buy a spare one and lengthen the e-scooter’s mileage;

  • You can easily replace it. The battery is the first thing that deteriorates on most electric scooters. Usually, you need to replace your electric scooter when your battery starts having issues. With a removable battery, you can simply replace it and keep on riding your electric scooter, saving tons of money!

Speaking of mileage, this electric scooter can make up to 17 miles on a single charge. There are certainly electric scooters with longer mile-ranges on the market, but if we consider the Hiboy S2R’s same price range, this is more than acceptable.

The Hiboy S2R takes 4 to 6 hours to be fully charged when completely empty. When compared to electric scooters in the same price range, it’s a short charging time: other devices with similar characteristics can take up to 10 hours for a full charge.

Why we like about Hiboy S2R Electric Scooter:

  • Portability

This is one of the most lightweight electric scooters on the market. This is the perfect electric scooter for all those who need a small and lightweight device.

  • Performance

This is an electric scooter aimed at commuting or city ridings, and we appreciate that it is provided with all the needed features to become the perfect device for these purposes. Speed and power and the ones that allow a 100% safe riding on-road in the city, park, or any busy lane.

  • Removable battery

We already discussed the advantages of having a removable battery. It’s one of our favorite features on this Hiboy S2R Electric Scooter.

What we didn't like about Hiboy S2R Electric Scooter:

  • Brake lever and accelerator on the same side

The Hiboy S2R is one of the very few electric scooters that have the throttle and a brake lever on the same side of the handlebar. We don’t understand this choice since it’s far more comfortable having one controller on each side of the handlebar.

  • Mileage

17-mile mileage can be a little short for some commuters. However, the removable battery and the possibility of bringing a spare one with you can lengthen its mile-range. Furthermore, considering the price, we couldn’t be expecting much more!

Our rating

Features 90%
Battery range 80%
Top speed 80%
Quality 90%
Value for money 85%

Conclusion

The Hiboy S2R is the ideal electric scooter for commuters: it’s lightweight, powerful, and fast enough, it has all the needed safety features to ride on-road, and it comes at an affordable price. The Hiboy S2R Electric Scooter is a great value for money and it can replace your old conventional and polluting means of transport.
