Review

Inmotion never disappoints when it comes to making powerful and affordable electric scooters. It has a good reputation for building high-quality products that are very safe and reliable. Their latest release, which is the Inmotion L9 electric scooter, is not an exception. It’s bundled with innovative features such as the automatic motion detector and an app that helps to monitor your scooter performance and battery health.

The long-range enthusiasts will fall in love with this scooter, but more on this later in this Inmotion L9 Electric Scooter review. We went on a mission to explore everything that this scooter is good at and what it’s not. Keep reading to see what we found out.

Quality and Design of Inmotion L9 Electric Scooter:

The Inmotion L9 electric scooter comes with a neat modern design. What intrigues me the most is the customizable RGB led light strips on each side of the deck and the wide display screen on the dashboard. This screen comes with a multifunction power button that you can use to switch through the three modes or turn the lights on and off. The screen is surrounded by a blue strip that illuminates to make the dashboard more beautiful, especially at night.

You can easily notice the alluring Inmotion Emblem engraved on the digital console above the screen. The front side of the dashboards holds two very bright headlights that illuminate enough light in the dark.

Although it is a little larger than its predecessors, the L9 scooter has some of the most advanced features. Besides, you can fold it in less than 3 seconds whenever you want to move it around in your car.

With a weight of 52.9 lbs. (24kgs), it’s heavier than most electric scooters. It features 1307 x 520 x 1275 when unfolded and 1307 x 520 x 560 mm when folded. This a large size compared to most Inmotion scooters. If you have a small trunk, then you might struggle to fit it in even when it’s folded.

Let’s review the parts one by one.

Handlebars

The handlebars are one of my favorite parts of the L9 because they have a premium look.

They are large and comfortable to grip on. There is also a grey rubber layer on the handlebars that ensures secure grip and comfort. The rubber layer has a rough surface that prevents your hands from slipping off if they are wet.

The two handles connect to this gigantic central dashboard, which connects to the rest of the scooter frame. A nicely mounted brake lever stands next to the left handle, while a small bell sits next to the throttle handle.

Tires

The L9 scooter features 10-inch tubeless air-filled wheels. I love large-wheeled scooters such as this one because they have good rolling efficiency. Which means they cover more ground with less power.

Besides, they roll safely on the ground even with small obstacles on the ground, such as pebbles, cracks, and twigs.

Deck

Large wheels translate to a large comfortable deck of 19.1 by 7.3 inches. You can fit both legs on the L9 deck and remain with a small allowance of space. But this is still relatively small compared to other scooters. The L9 deck has a simple design with a large Inmotion emblem on its surface.

The lower part of the deck carries two ports for charging and a kickstand. Another noticeable feature on the deck is the clip for holding the folded handlebars. The rough footrest provides a good grip to ensure you don’t slide off easily.

Brakes

The L9 electric scooter comes with a disc brake system accompanied by regenerative braking located on the front motor. This system will help you to stop at a dime.

The activation of the regenerative brake makes braking quite strong, even at the top speed. It also features a rear brake light that blinks when you hit the brakes. The brake lever feels smooth even when braking at full speed.

Kickstand

This scooter comes with a retractable kickstand. It’s strong enough to support the scooter. Make sure that the kickstand is facing downhill when packing on a sloppy spot.

Assembling

The Inmotion L9 electric scooter comes folded in a box which also includes a few useful accessories.

  • Power cable

  • Power Adapter

  • Extended air valve

  • Folding ring

  • Allen wrench

  • Screws

  • Instruction Manual

Assembling it is easy; all you need to do is put it in its standing position and screw in, then straighten the head of the scooter. Next, use the folding ring to install the head on the mast and tighten the screws.

Now press the power on button to ensure that the scooter is working. Next, scan the QR code on the instructional manual to download the app. Pair it with your scooter using Bluetooth as prompted by the app. Once everything is set, the last thing you need to do is to charge the scooter before taking it out on the first ride.

Performance for Inmotion L9:

One thing for sure that the L9 is optimized for is performance. From the smooth throttle to the dual suspension, the L9 electric scooter offers excellent performance. It has a top speed of 18.6 mph and a max range of 59 miles.

The top speed is average compared to most scooters of the same price, but when it comes to range, L9 ranks among the best. Its powerful battery has greatly influenced this range. If you love going on long rides, then you will fall in love with this beast. It’s also the best choice for those living in unstable power supply areas as they can use it for weeks without charging.

The dual fork suspension on the front, accompanied by the rear spring design located between the deck and rear wheel, absorbs most of the shocks. Only when riding on poorly maintained or highly bumpy roads that some shock might sneak to the rider. But overall, the suspensions do a good job of making your ride as swift as possible.

I was impressed with the punchy acceleration that this scooter offers, thanks to its 1000 watt electric motor. It accelerates from 0-15 mph in just 4.2seconds. This is a great performance for such a large-looking scooter. Typical scooters come with motors that average 300-500 watts. If you get the L9, you are sure to be in the bracket of the top-performing scooters.

Battery life

One of the factors that led to the oversized design of the l9 is the massive battery located below the deck. It features a 54V battery that produces 675Wh. Despite its big size, this battery can be charged in 3.6 hours while using two chargers. Charging with one charger will take 7.2 hours. The good thing is that charging the scooter using two chargers doesn’t affect its performance or battery life.

You can keep track of your battery usage on the dashboard or using the Inmotion app. Long rangers will enjoy taking this scooter for long rides without having to worry about the charge. It averages a range of 59 miles. Note that the range might change depending on the weight and top speed.

Why we like about Inmotion L9 Electric Scooter:

  • Powerful battery

The battery is our favorite thing in this scooter. We love going on long escapades, and a powerful battery makes us feel comfortable.

  • Double charging port

The fact that we can charge the scooter in 3.6 hours and ride for several days blows our minds off.

  • Huge display screen

The dashboard has this massive screen that displays all the metrics that we need. We also love the blue strip of blue light that surrounds the screen. The blue line strip, together with the one multifunction button, gives the dashboard a neat contemporary design.

  • Comfortable deck

Although we love playing around with high-performance scooters, we don’t like compromised comfort. We like the L9 deck because it’s wide and comfortable, thanks to the spring design that joins it and the rear wheel.

  • 10-inch wheels

The 10-inch wheels on this scooter allow it to maneuver even on tough pavements easily.

What we didn't like about Inmotion L9 Electric Scooter:

  • Weight

59 lbs. can be tiresome to carry, especially up the stairs
