The Xiaomi Mi Electric Scooter has been designed with elegance and practicality in mind. The powder-coated aluminum body is sturdy enough to withstand city traffic yet it looks sleek, and the design is minimalistic yet modern.

The scooter’s intuitive and well-placed controls make riding a smooth and comfortable experience. The scooter houses the throttle on the left side and the brake pedal to the right of the handle-bars. The throttle is smooth and doesn’t offer much resistance, so it is easy to hold for long a duration. There are 4 LED indicators on the dashboard that displays the battery level, with a power button underneath.
The handles have an anti-slip finish that gives maximum security to the rider. The handle-bars are narrow and this makes the scooter perfect to navigate through city traffic and tight spaces without scratching them. The headlight is mounted on the front of the handle-bars, and you can turn it on by a push of the button. These ultra-bright 1.1W headlights offer night time visibility for approximately 20 feet. The headlight along with the rear brake light makes it convenient to navigate the scooter at night.

The Xiaomi Mi Electric Scooter has a mobile app that displays battery level and riding distance of the scooter. You have to pair the scooter to the app via Bluetooth and all the stats will be displayed. Xiaomi has added a lock feature to the app and you can lock your scooter to protect it while it is parked. You can also use it to enable cruise-control on the scooter which means you don’t have to press the throttle the whole time.

The Xiaomi scooter has a marvelous dual-braking system, with a standard rear disc brake and regenerative front brakes, that charge the battery by converting kinetic energy to electricity, which is a very cool feature and elongates the battery life. The scooter has a stopping distance of 13.1 feet which is pretty decent, and you will come to a halt quickly even when going downhill.

The scooter has 8.5-inch pneumatic tubeless tires, and it comes with an extra set of tires out of the box. While the tires will absorb some bumps and jerks, the absence of a suspension means that you will have to be vigilant of uneven roads and bend your knees beforehand, to avoid falling off the scooter.

Asembly
You don’t have to do much to assemble the scooter as it is mostly assembled coming out of the box. To get a functional unit, you only have to attach the handlebars and screw 4 bolts with a hexagonal wrench (included) to secure them in place, and you’re good to go! Assembly should take you approximately 10 mins. The scooter also comes with an extra set of tires and tubes, so in case you ever need to replace them, you won’t have to purchase them separately.

The Xiaomi Mi Electric Scooter is powered by a 250W hub motor that can accelerate the scooter up to 15.5 Miles/hour, which is a pretty decent speed to ride around the city. The scooter can bear a maximum load of 220 lbs.; however, the scooter may not attain maximum speed with this load.
To turn on the scooter, you need to kick it like a normal scooter with the power button turned on, and the motor will come to life. The motor is quiet and you get a smooth ride without any shudders or jerks. You can press the throttle to attain desired speed and then turn on cruise control, and the scooter will maintain its speed, and in our opinion, this is an fabulous feature. Cruise control can be activated easily from the accompanying app. The scooter has a torque of 16 Nm which gives it the ability to climb an incline of 14-degree, however, you may notice a sharp decline in the battery due to the exertion on the motor. With a lighter rider, you can climb slopes but with maximum load, the scooter won’t be able to carry you through, therefore this scooter is best suited for flat terrains.
Battery
The scooter comes with multiple 18650 Lithium-ion batteries and this gives it stellar battery life. The battery takes 5 hours to fully charge, and the scooter will ride for 18.6 miles on a single charge. You can monitor the battery level from the app, or the LED indicators present on the scooter. If you ever run out of juice, use it as a kick scooter to reach your destination so you can plug in the scooter. However, Xiaomi has taken some steps to prevent that from happening. This scooter contains a front regenerative brake, and as I have mentioned above, your scooter will recharge as you ride thanks to this feature. The scooter also boasts an eco-mode that limits the performance to extend the battery life even further. You will get a top speed of approximately 11 mph on eco-mode, and this can be turned on from the app.

What we didn't like about Xiaomi Mi Electric Scooter
- The battery compartment is not waterproof, so you should avoid riding in puddles or rain
- Even though the attached headlight is bright, at night it may not be enough to see road hazards like potholes
- It doesn’t perform well when going uphill and utilizes too much battery
- The battery charges in 5 hours, which is a long wait
- The bell is designed poorly
- It is awkward to carry around for a long time due to the heavy frame
