Quality and Design of Segway Ninebot F40 Electric Scooter :
The Segway Ninebot F40 features a very balanced design with a matte great frame, light gray hand grips, a few orange details in the wheels, and brake wire.
One of the main reasons why commuters would love the Segway Ninebot 7 is its portability. Not only does it feature a quick and secure foldable mechanism, but the entire device is not that heavy. With only 38 pounds of weight, this is one of the lightest scooters available (with the same features). If you need to fold, lift, or carry your device during the day, weight is an essential feature.
Handlebars
The Ninebot F40 features a straight handlebar with rubberized gray handgrips. The handlebar is very simple, in full Segway style: there are a few controllers and everything is carefully positioned and built.
On the left side, you’ll find a bell and the brake lever. On the right side, you’ll find the throttle. It’s a small lever that you can push down with your right thumb to accelerate.
In the center, there is a small display that is well visible and clear. The only problem with the display is that it has only one button and you need to browse through all the settings with it. It’s complicated when you’re riding, so we recommend only changing mode and setting when you aren’t in motion.
Tires
The Ninebot F40 features 10’’ pneumatic tires. They are the best tires you can have on an electric scooter (the most expensive models have this type of tires too!). They can provide the best comfort and balance, which can also translate into enhanced security.
Lights
The Ninebot F40 is equipped with a built-in front LED light. It is powerful and has a wide-angle so it should be suitable for riding in poor light conditions. In any case, it’s very helpful in signaling your presence to other road users.
Deck & kickstand
The deck is long and narrow. It reminds the style of old non-motorized scooters. It’s comfortable and it features an anti-slip surface that has also been designed to reduce vibrations by providing additional padding under your feet.
Brakes
The rear brake is a top-quality adjustable disc brake. By adjusting the cable you can increase or decrease the brake intensity so it becomes more effective and safe according to your riding style.
Waterproof certification
The Skagway Ninebot F40 features IP54 waterproof certification. It means that is fully protected against solid objects but, when it comes to water or any liquids, it’s only protected against splashes. It means that you should avoid using it in wet, or when it’s raining. However, if the terrain is slightly wet and there are some puddles, you have nothing to worry about.
Assembling
The Segway Ninebot F40’s package includes:
the scooter
a thank you card
a user manual
a set of tools
the battery charger
1 spare tire
All you need to do to assemble your electric scooter is to connect the wires inside the handlebars (no tools needed). Then, you need to attach the handlebar to the stem and secure it with the provided screws and tools. It all requires less than 10 minutes.
Check the tires’ pressure, charge the device, and you are ready to go!
Performance for Segway Ninebot F40:
The Segway Ninebot F40 is powered by a 350 W motor. It can provide a maximum speed of 18.5 mph. This might not seem excessive, and it isn’t, but it’s just appropriate to commute and ride through the streets effectively, and safely. Faster speeds on an electric scooter aren’t allowed on public streets, and they wouldn’t be safe either.
You can limit down the maximum speed by using the central mode button below the display. There are several reasons why you may want to do so. The first is that, if you are a beginner, you want to limit the speed to have less acceleration power. The acceleration of an electric motor is very abrupt, so you need some practice.
The other reason is that by slowing down the speed you can lengthen the battery duration and, therefore, mileage.
The fact that you can regulate the brakes is also helpful for beginners.

Battery life
The 367Wh battery allows a 25-mile mileage. It’s in line with the range that other scooters for the price can provide. It’s usually suitable for commuters who generally don’t need to charge the electric scooter more than once per day (usually they can at least commute for two days before they need to charge the device).
The charging time can be a little long. It can take hours, but – again – this isn’t different from other electric scooters in the same price range.
Why we like about Segway Ninebot F40:
Design
The Ninebot F40 features a good-looking and well-balanced design. The matte black finish is beautiful and the orange details make it recognizable.
Value for money
We appreciate that Segway managed to provide the best features possible while keeping the price fair. Performance is perfect for commuters, the device can be used by beginners, but the price remains affordable.
They include spare tire
This is the first time that we encounter a spare tire included in the package and in the price (and we’ve reviewed hundreds of electric scooters during the years!).
What we didn't like about Segway Ninebot F40:
The app
As it happens with most electric scooters, you need the app to start your device. The app is a sort of your key. We think it should be optimized in terms of speed. Sometimes, it takes too much to launch the app and you can’t start your electric scooter without it.
Conclusion
If you need an affordable electric scooter but you don’t want to renounce to quality, the Segway Ninebot F40 is the electric scooter for you!
What’s the deck length? Huge thanks!
